August 24

I learned how to stick my tongue out. I like it.

Although I am only eating little bites of solid foods, I love eating my caterpillar. Yum.

Here I am with my friend Mel. I like to watch her crawl, stand up and eat. She's an older woman, at 15 months.

Here we are playing in Melody's front yard. She shares with me and is very sweet to me.

This weekend we went camping. We met some friends at a place in Old Snowmass by a stream where we could pull our car up. This kind of car camping is what we will do for awhile, since I can't wear a pack yet, and Mama has to wear me as her pack. Baba is tough, but can't really hike all our gear on a trail. I was not a fan of sleeping in a tent. Every time Mama rolled over on the ThermaRest, I woke up. So, none of us got much sleep, it rained and there were mosquitoes. Still, we had fun and decided it was not a total failure. I liked hanging out on the blanket under the trees. Julianna took me on a hike, Mama nursed me by the river, and Gabe and Baba played with me and made me laugh.

I am enjoying these last days of summer.
Baba gets me up when I awaken. He dresses me and we play together for awhile. Then he brings me into his bed to wake up Mama. Mama nurses me and then we hang out and play. We eat breakfast together. I'm eating rice cereal mixed with Mama's milk from a spoon. (I eat a few bites and then chew on my spoon). By 9am I'm ready for another nap. When I wake up, Mama and I go hiking, walk around the neighborhood, go to the pool or run errands. Today Mama and I went to the pool. I splashed around a lot and enjoyed watching the fountain. Then we sat on a lounge chair and I nursed. Sweet life, eh. Then we spent a lot of time playing on the floor. I'm sitting up for longer periods of time, with Mama's support. I roll around and inch along more. I grab everything. I'm starting to make two-syllable sounds like "da-da-da" and "nya-nya-nya".

Grabbing life.

Here I am sitting up. I can't get there on my own, but I enjoy it when Mama helps me to sit so I can see all my toys. I really like looking at my books and chewing on them. When I bob my head around, I lose my balance and fall over. Good thing Mama is there to soften my fall.

Yesterday, I was hanging out on the living room floor while Mama was cleaning up breakfast. She had some clean laundry on the floor ready to fold and put away. Before she knew it, I was into the laundry. I can roll around pretty quickly now. We're trying to find each other here.

Getting Around

I'm trying to get around. It's slow going but I'm making progress. It's easier on hard, smooth floors where I can scootch backwards and turn around. We just got a bike trailer and we biked the 7 miles to Carbondale today. I love the ride and fell asleep both ways. I'm not really wanting to eat much other than breast milk. Mama makes great faces when she feeds me solid foods, but I make sour faces. I just like to gnaw on the spoon. We're going to try branching out for new foods, hoping I will take a liking to something else. Mama starts teaching part time in two weeks. She's really hoping I will be ready to eat different foods and take milk from my sippy cup by then. These seem to be very big goals right now. We'll see how the next weeks unfold.

Solomon the Inch Worm

Most of the time I am happy.

Sometimes I am not.

I'm trying out some new moves. I just want to reach everything out there in the world.

Video clips

Here are some video clips of where we live, filmed by Paul.

Here is the waterfall at Hanging Lakes. We hiked up here twice this week because it is so beautiful.

This is the back road we take to get to our house. The sky and clouds were particularly grand today.

Paul and Deborah's visit

Our good friends Paul and Deborah came to visit us this week. They took the train from Indiana and I picked them up at the station. They loved on me so much!! I think they are hilarious. We went on lots of hikes and swam in the pool. We also played at home and I began a little "inch worm" move to try to get to them and to my toys. I can't wait to see them again in December.
